We have a ton of magnetic beads in The Beading Room at the moment, and I am trying to get them up on the site as quickly as possible because I think they are great. Not only do they have a fantastic metallic finish, they feel so cool against the skin on a hot summer’s day like today. And best of all there is no clasp needed!
Now, I have used the regular hematite ovals and tubes commonly found in the craft stores and I think they are great. But I am now in love with the magnetic rounds-especially the creme and white pearl finishes. You could string them simply on their own and they would look fantastic.
I am also picturing crystal, fire-polished rondelles, some pretty beadcaps…..
The ‘hematite’ beads we are stocking are not strictly hematite. Hematite, as it occurs naturally, is quite a delicate, brittle substance and is usually only used in fine jewellery. This ‘refined’ hematite is actually much more attractive, with a solid and consistent color and high gloss finish.
You can get non-magnetic hematite beads, as well as glass beads that are coated or finished to look like hematite. Confused? Who cares what they are as long as you love them, right?
I am going to make something lovely with these pearl rounds…watch this space for a photo or two:)
